In the near future, a “Truthers Support Group” meets in an old shutdown internet café amid societal upheaval. As they go around the circle, we come to understand that each conspiracy theorist is living in their own world and all have lost their moorings on reality. As the meeting finishes, a news channel announces the collapse of their national government and martial law.
This short film is built to explore conspiracy theories. The Simple Rule refers to the one rule the group has: no one is allowed to challenge another member’s beliefs. Just as when online, people limit themselves to those who already believe what they believe.
“Symbolically we demonstrate how the internet fractures reality and keeps everyone living in their own information silo. Suspense is ramped up as, outside chaos echoes, the news keeps flashing more and more dire headlines and each person’s conspiracy theory is more dangerous than the last.”
This film is the first in a series of short films we'll produce to entertain and inform around the dangers of disinformation. Thank you for your considered support.
